Join us in restoring the Tasmanian Midlands, an ecologically important region, to revive biodiversity and strengthen natural landscapes for future generations.
What is the opportunity?
The Tasmanian Midlands, once a thriving biodiversity hotspot, is facing significant environmental challenges due to habitat loss, invasive species, and agricultural expansion. Critical ecosystems are being degraded, resulting in the decline of native flora and fauna, including species that are endemic to this region. Climate change has further exacerbated the situation, making restoration efforts more urgent than ever. If we do not act swiftly, this unique region will continue to lose its ecological value, putting Tasmania’s overall biodiversity at risk.
What is this project’s solution?
The Tasmanian Midlands Restoration Project aims to restore ecological integrity through a combination of land revegetation and habitat regeneration. By partnering with merino woolgrowers, the project will rehabilitate vital areas of the Midlands. The restoration will include the establishment of native plants, supporting both biodiversity recovery and carbon sequestration efforts. Additionally, the project will engage local communities in sustainable land management practices to ensure the longevity and success of the restoration activities.
What is the investment ask?
We are seeking partners to investment a minimum of AU$100,000 a year to fund restoration efforts, through either a one-off annual partnership, or multiyear, and can be made up by multiple funders. This will fund site preparation, planting, monitoring, and community engagement, and allow us to carry out long-term ecological restoration and foster resilience in the Midlands.
What are the benefits of involvement?
Investors will have the opportunity to contribute directly to the preservation of Tasmania’s unique biodiversity and play a key role in mitigating the impacts of climate change. Your involvement will enhance your reputation as an environmental leader, promote sustainability initiatives, and provide valuable opportunities for public relations through the visibility of your support. Your investment will be promoted through regional and national conservation networks, and as a Greening Australia “partner” we will support you in promoting your support to our existing networks.
What is the Project Plan?
The project will be delivered in three key phases, building off previous work in the region.
Phase 1 – Landholder selection, site assessment and planning: Landholder engagement and selection, followed by ecological surveys and site mapping to create a restoration plan.
Phase 2 – Restoration implementation: clearing invasive vegetation and site preparation, planting native species, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the site (e.g. installing guards and/or fencing).
Phase 3 – Monitoring and adaptive management: Long-term monitoring of restoration progress, continuous landholder involvement, and adaptive management to ensure the project’s ongoing success.
What is your expected participation?
There is no expectation, although if there are opportunities to collaborate on this (or other) projects we would love to hear from you.
